"The Channel" continued...

If so, how do you deal with it?

In a loving but firm way set boundaries and occasionally mute the mic if they haven’t abided by the boundary of no profanity.

What are The Channel’s hours and days of operation?

The Channel is event driven, so there aren’t specific hours of operation.

When are shows generally performed?

Typically Friday and Saturday nights

What kind of demographics do you see at The Channel?

Mostly 18-25 year olds, but we get a lot of great support from parents and family members of local bands.

Tell me about Grille 33.

Grille 33 exists to help support the Channel, providing for almost 50% of The Channel’s budget. It is a great restaurant, with yummy food! We focus on running it as a marketplace ministry, meaning we build relationships with our staff and have intentionally lived our faith walk in front of them. Four of our staff have come to Christ in the past year. One of them has a passion to move into full time inner city ministry and is in training to do that!

What type of foods do they serve?

We are known for our burgers, winning the 2012 best burger in the Upstate award.

I noticed that Grille 33 serves beer and wine. From a Christian perspective, how do you deal with serving alcohol?

We have a policy that we never serve over a certain limit so that we are never contributing to drunkenness, and do not serve liquor. It has actually been amazing the conversations that have come up with people at the bar and the opportunity the Lord opens to talk to people about their faith. * (DISCLAIMER: Greenville In One Accord does not endorse the consumption of alcohol and encourage others to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:8)

The Channel’s website states that it is an alcohol free venue. Does Grille 33 not operate during shows?

Alcohol is not allowed in the venue, we are actually working on a separate entrance from Main Street so that those with strong convictions of abstaining from alcohol won’t have to walk in Grille 33 if they don’t desire to.

What are Grille 33’s hours and days of operation?

Mon-Wed 11am-9pm, Thurs-Sat 10am-10pm, & Sundays 10am-4pm

What is The Channel contributing to the community at large?

God is at work in so many aspects of what The Channel does. Beyond providing a music venue where our young adults can have a positive, Christ focused venue, The Channel has many other initiatives as well. This summer we launched our first internship where six college age kids were challenged to radically walk out their faith daily and experience intentional Christian community. We have also opened a city wide prayer house called The Shift in the basement of The Channel. A very exciting aspect of The Channel that few know about is our ‘City Initiative’ with a vision to unite diverse individuals, organizations, and institutions to promote the positive growth of community and reach needs in Greenville. The first community focused on with this initiative has been Judson. We are already seeing God’s hand move mightily as plans are underway for a community garden and some other land to be used to improve the community. Over 15 organizations, churches and businesses have come together to make this happen. Lastly we allow church groups and non-profit groups to use The Channel venue for free.

What can the community do to help The Channel?

Help spread the word! Support the Christian music scene by attending concerts.
