"Morality" continued...

Christians are called hypocritical by unbelievers when we sin or fail to live up to the holy standard, but we know that no man is perfect. We are still imprisoned in this fallen flesh, but we know there is absolute Truth. The world is truly hypocritical with their values… their undefined right and wrong. Some of the lost may say that they are “good because they want to be.” What is this undefined good they want to be? The Bible is called an immoral book. What is this undefined immorality? Abortion is called a necessary evil. What is this undefined evil? Homosexuality is said to be ok, but bestiality is wrong. What makes one form of sex right and one wrong? There is no standard but a double standard. The world is unable to define good and evil, because it has no basis on which to define it apart from God. Anyone truly seeking knowledge has to address these types of questions. The lost are blinded by the devil.

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2 Corinthians 4:4

Without God influencing our lives, we are going to follow whatever system that panders to our desires. Everybody obviously can’t “do what they want,” but that is the standard that is trying to be set every day. What is right, and what is wrong? Demonic lies sear or cauterize men’s conscience. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 states “1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;”

Just like you can lose feeling in a wound when the nerves are burnt away, people can lose feeling about right and wrong. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 is a warning about false teachers and apostates (professing Christians who change their position and depart from their beliefs). We should never be approving things that are wrong and doing so shows the true position of one’s “faith”. God calls to men, but most ignore Him. They also ignore their own conscience. Doing so allows man to corrupt their sense of right and wrong and fulfill their own lusts.

“28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Romans 1:28-32

God gives those that desire evil over to a reprobate or debased mind. The Greek word for reprobate basically means “not passing the test.” The mind of the world has been found to be worthless. It has failed. The atheistic or naturalistic view of the world has no reason for right or wrong. Some non-believers will admit that, and they’ll even go as far as to say that maybe murder isn’t wrong. How would they feel if somebody wanted to murder them? Suddenly, there might be a right and wrong.

We are living in dark and difficult times, but it is nothing that the forefathers of the Christian faith have not faced before. Right is considered wrong and evil is considered good. We have to be able to respond. If moral values exist… and they do, there must be a reason. The reason is God.

Allow the Holy Spirit and the Living Word to keep your conscience sharp and remove the clutter. There is right and wrong. There is good and evil. Morality is part of the absolute Truth.
