Open Letter: Winn Freeman
By: David Lyda
It is with much sadness but eternal rejoicing that I announce the passing of my friend Winn Freeman, founder of Wisdom In Living Life, a Christ centered rehabilitation ministry. Winn’s story is one of redemption, and he has had eternal impact upon many lives. He served others with a firm but compassionate love, and his life has affected me deeply. His servant’s heart is something I strive for. As great as an example as he was, Winn would never take the credit. He would point to the Cross. He would give all the glory to Jesus Christ. Winn didn’t like it when people said that they were being helped by a higher power. He loved the name of Jesus and proudly proclaimed that He was the solution to our problems. Winn would say that those caught in addiction didn’t have a disease. They had a sin problem. We all have a sin problem that can only be healed by the Great Physician, Jesus Christ. Wherever you are in your life, you can make a change. In 1988, Winn Freeman was given a 3% chance of succeeding at anything. He was living in California, a heroin addict and a drunk, and headed for jail. On March 9th, he entered eternity as a child of God. If you are living in bondage to sin, today can be the day you are set free. All you have to do is accept the sacrifice that Jesus made for you.
