"Homosexuality" continued...

“18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:18-32)

The Apostle Paul was not one to tiptoe around issues. When writing to the church in Rome, Paul instructed them in doctrine that applied to the things going on in the fallen world. This letter made clear that God would not and could not tolerate unrighteousness. Will God approve of the people that try to corrupt the truth and approve of sins? Verse 18 says that God’s wrath will be revealed to them. God has made Himself obvious and clear through His Word and through nature, but people did not respect God and showed themselves to be fools. The world is “so smart,” but they are really fools in rationalizing their sin.

God does not force anyone to obey Him, and He has allowed these sinners to choose their path. “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:” These sexual sins are dishonoring a person’s own body. It becomes even more serious when you look at Christians that dishonor their bodies. Our body is the temple of God, and we are disgracing His temple with sexual sins! (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

Approving sexual sins has in essence “changed the truth of God into a lie.” The world and churches are saying that it is ok to fulfill the lusts of your own body and worship and serve “the creature more than the Creator.”

You will have plenty of people try to argue that the times have changed. That is such a blatant lie! For one, God never changes. Second, sexual sins have been a problem throughout the ages. Third, you may hear someone say that homosexuality is only condemned in the Old Testament. Not so! In Romans 1, Paul is discussing how terrible sexual sin is, and his point is driven home by the fact that “even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature.” Homosexuality is yet again condemned in these verses, and the desires are stated as against nature. It’s interesting that he points out women first as well. Women are usually the last to be affected by the moral decay of society, but they were playing a part in it as well.

What about the men? “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” There is no doubt that homosexuality is being pointed out in particular, and it is not something new to our time. What recompense do they receive for their error? How about diseases to start with, mental problems related to what they are doing, and ultimately separation from fellowship with God.

In the closing of that chapter, Paul lists a variety of sins that are affecting mankind. Homosexuality was already pointed out in the previous verses, and fornication soon follows. Again, this is any sex outside of God’s intentions for marriage. This sin is so bad, that it is listed alongside murders. Not only that, but so many sins of the mouth are listed. Will God tolerate these sins? Well, verse 22 says “they which commit such things are worthy of death.” Living in fornication is a sin and worthy of death, but that’s not where it stops. The scriptures say “…not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Perhaps you are keeping your own life clean of sexual sin, but are you approving of it? Do you care about those that are on a one way trip to hell? How should we respond?

We are to care and pray for the lost. Our Lord commands us to “love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:36-40). Every other person in the world qualifies as our neighbor, and that includes the believers and unbelievers. Those that are lost in their sins will oppose the Truth. It would be an easy thing to just let them live in their sin and not respond, but that is not love. We can never approve of their sin. This will never help a lost person. We can never repay evil with evil either. If someone attacks us because of our stand with God, we must never be found disgracing His name. Calling somebody a slur, using profanity towards them, or even physically attacking them is not of Christ. Gay marriage may be made legal all over our country one day, but we can never approve of it. We will be hated, but we must truly care for their soul and the things of God. Non-believers will never understand the Truth. The glorious thing is that there is always hope for those in sin!

“9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

The lost will not go to heaven. As Christians, we are to forsake our sins and follow God. If you have sinned and have no conviction from the Holy Spirit, you are not saved. Paul says to “be not deceived”. Those living in sin will not inherit the kingdom of God. The list of sins in 1 Corinthians 6 is interesting in the fact that it is dominated by sexual sins. It starts with fornicators. It also points out adulterers, effeminate (or homosexuals), and abusers of themselves with mankind (sodomites). There is a mighty hope in these verses though. God can bring you out of any sin. After a brief list of sins, Paul points out in Verse 11 “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” There were homosexuals and fornicators in New Testament times that were saved and they forsook their sins! Glory to God that the invitation for redemption is still available today.

The new creation can overcome the lust of the flesh. If you today are living in sexual sin, you must forsake it. Remove the beam in your own eye before you try to address the speck in your brother’s eye (Matthew 7:3-5). If our brothers and sisters in Christ are living in or approving of sexual sin, we must lovingly correct and help them.

Homosexuality is a sin. The Bible is clear about this. Anyone that tries to say anything contrary to that is sharing the “gospel of demons.” We cannot and must not approve of that sin no matter how much the world pressures us to accept it. We cannot hate and mistreat those lost in that sin either. Only by showing them love and concern for their soul can we ever reach the lost. We must help our neighbors. Pray, stand strong, and know God’s Word!
