Homosexuality is a hot topic in our nation and world. We hear the constant push for gay marriage. Homosexual leaders are being accepted in more and more churches. We find homosexuals in our own families, our circle of friends, and among our coworkers. The homosexual agenda is being pushed by our entertainment, by the places we shop, and even by a certain popular sandwich cookie!

Where do Christians stand in regards to this attack on God’s moral standard? Many oppose it and are hatefully attacked by the media. Some Christians are accepting homosexuality. They say that God is love and recognizes all “love.” You will even find men and women that say that the Bible doesn’t forbid it! Finally, most Christians fall into the passive category and just ignore it while letting anything happen.

Our own opinions, feelings, or lack of caring cannot dictate the Christian stance. We have to seek God’s will in everything, and that will be in opposition to the world. What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

“22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it [is] confusion. 24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants… 29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit [them] shall be cut off from among their people. 30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that [ye] commit not [any one] of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I [am] the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 18:22-25, 29-30)

Some people may try to say that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality, but they are clearly mistaken. Leviticus 18:22 states “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind:” It makes no difference between a relationship that is committed or just a fling. The very act of homosexuality is condemned and even called an abomination, which is essentially an extreme act of disgust both morally and spiritually. Take note that the verse that follows condemns bestiality. You would be hard pressed to find even unbelievers that would approve of sex with animals. Both acts were equally disgusting to God, and they were the very acts being performed in the pagan nations around the Hebrew people.

We are told not to defile ourselves in these things or we would be cast out and destroyed. This is ultimately our soul being cut off from the presence of God. Verse 30 describes what these acts had become in the pagan nations, “abominable customs”. They were traditions or something that was widely accepted. Is that where America has gone? If it was not for the patience of our loving God and the good Christian people in our country, ultimate destruction would have already fallen upon us. Sodom and Gomorrah are great examples of cities that fell too far. They were destroyed for their wickedness, and homosexuality was most definitely part of that evil.

Genesis 19 describes two cities that had become so wicked that almost no righteous men could be found in them. Homosexuality and sexual sin were so rampant in Sodom and Gomorrah that even the men of God had been affected. What was Lot’s reaction when the men of the city wanted to have sex with the angels that were lodged in his house? He offered his virgin daughters in their place! Though his intentions were to spare the angels, Lot’s thinking had been corrupted by what was around him. He was allowing one sexual sin to be replaced by another sexual sin. The minds of Lot’s daughter had not been spared from the corruption either. After fleeing their city that was being destroyed, Lot’s daughters got their father drunk and both had sex with him to bear children. Is this where our country is going? Morality seems to be a thing of the past. We are told that homosexuality is normal, and Christians are accepting it. The carnally minded people of this world want “equal rights” to allow homosexuals to marry. When will we allow “equal rights” for men to have multiple wives? When will we allow “equal rights” for men to marry their dogs? It’s a scary thought, but how did we get to this point?

Our standards have been gradually lowered. Fornication is continually condemned in God’s Word (Matthew 15:18-20, Romans 1:28-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7), and it is any sex outside of God’s intentions. Paul says that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Those who are not going to heaven are going to hell. The Bible is clear about this. What does the church think about fornication now?

Sex outside of marriage is often ignored or even approved of. This is fornication, and it is a sin. Cohabitation, children out of wedlock, and sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend are not pleasing to God. We ignore God for our flesh. Our standards have been lowered.

Marriage itself is a mockery. How can we cry out about the bond of marriage being corrupted with gay marriage? Divorce and adultery is prevalent in today’s churches, and no one thinks anything of marriage and remarriage. Sexual sins are brought into marriages and often take couples out of marriage. Our standards have been lowered.

Filthy language and increasingly sexually suggestive speech are not uncommon among Christian circles. We have no filter on our entertainment, and many cherish the movies, TV shows, and music that often graphically show and describe sex. Our standards have been lowered.

There is no thought to the way we dress. Women wear revealing outfits even to church. Do you think God would approve of low cut shirts and short skirts? Men wear pants so tight that it is surprising that blood can still flow to their legs. You can find plenty of people with their pants so low that their underwear is clearly on display too. Our pants have been lowered, and our standards have been lowered too.

It is no surprise that lust is such a major problem in churches. Fornication is not being addressed in church, and our media is continually promoting it. Sex is all around, virginity is shameful, pornography is readily available, and our standards have continually been lowered! What is this world coming to? Just like Lot, even righteous men are being influenced. Suddenly homosexuality is approved. There are churches approving it, and people all around are increasingly telling us that it is ok. Will God allow this?
